Emergency Information
We are proud to be the area’s premier Emergency & Critical Care center, providing advanced care 24/7 with critical care specialists 365 days per year and other specialists available on-call for surgery and other interventions.
Due to the above, limited services offered at some other regional emergency/specialty hospitals, and our role as a tertiary referral center, our caseload during the pandemic increased substantially such that we have some space constraints. These space constraints force us to maintain some degree of curbside appointments for some emergency visits until major renovations are completed. Rest assured that you will still meet your medical team and likely will be in the building for some or all of your visit. But we may ask that you spend some wait time in your vehicle and have some communications by phone. Know that we continue to provide the very best medical care to your pet, and that we will do everything we can to make your visit as smooth and as stress-free as possible – for your pet and for you!
BEFORE COMING TO THE HOSPITAL
Please call us at 203-595-2777 if possible so that we can provide any guidance and expect your arrival. We can also give you an idea of the current estimated wait times.
Please be sure your cell phone is fully charged to ensure you can communicate effectively with our medical staff.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE HOSPITAL
- Come to the Emergency entrance.
- Enter the vestibule and press the intercom button to inform our team of your arrival. Please let them know if you think your pet is critical or if you need help getting him/her into the building.
- A triage nurse/technician will be with you soon after to evaluate your pet, to ask you a few questions, and to determine whether your pet needs to be brought immediately into our Emergency Room or can safely wait with you.
- You will be directed to complete registration. This will gather the information we need regarding you and your pet.
- The emergency doctor assigned to your pet will thoroughly examine your pet and speak with you for additional medical history and to discuss findings and recommendations.
- Our medical team will keep you informed throughout your visit and will talk you through all steps.
- Face masks are recommended but no longer required. We do ask, however, that you wear a face mask while interacting with our staff if you have recently been sick with, or exposed to, COVID, or are displaying any symptoms of respiratory illness.
